Russia¡¯s Supposed to Immediately Decline the Log Export Tax after Entering WTO
Russian should immediately reduce the log export tax after entering WTO, held Dmitry Wade Cove Maxim, director of Secretary Talks, Russian Federation Ministry of Economic Development, and Head of Russian Accession to the WTO Delegation.
On December 7, Russia and European Union agreed to reduce the log export tax. Nevertheless, the declined tax is still higher than the free tariff in 2004. At present, the tax rate accounts for 25% of the price declaration, but it should be no less than 15 euro per cubic meter.
Dmitry Wade Cove pointed out that ¡°it (the new log export tax) will be started just when Russia becomes a member of WTO.¡± Before then, Russian officials said that the country will enter WTO in 2011.
Dmitry Wade Cove didn¡¯t mention the extent to which the tax will reduce, but Elie Villa, Minister of Russian Ministry of Economic Development, once revealed that the tax rate for birch and poplar will be 7% and 5% respectively.
